WELCOME TO CARMENS INN, SCAMANDER
BOOK DIRECTLY AND SAVE!
Carmen's Inn at the Beach, Scamander is just the bees knees. There is no other way to describe it. It has all the comforts of home without being over the top and pretentious. You can kick your shoes off at the door then walk in and lay back on the couch while one of the kids makes you a hot cuppa! We are smack bang in between all the good bits that you need to see on the Great Eastern Drive as well as being right by the St Helens Mountain Bike Network.
Our accommodation is a mad mix of 80's retro with a bit of late 90's refurb and then some other random pieces mixed in! But everything is clean, and very welcoming. You come to Carmen's Inn to relax, not to ogle expensive furniture! Our units are fitted with everything you need for an easy stay: large bedrooms, full kitchen facilities, own private bathroom, deck, ocean views, parking at your door, games, lounge room and dining room. It's all here - you just need to bring yourself!
Carmen's Inn is less than an hour's drive to all the iconic locations along the Great Eastern Driving including to the north the Bay of Fires (wow wow wow - even on a bad day this place is beautiful), St Helens is great for poking around and checking out the local shops, The Blue Tier is part of the East Coast's history and there are remnants of old tin mines, towns and even Chinese memorials that you will stumble across in your travels. If you are out that way you can keep going through to Ansons Bay and Eddystone Point Lighthouse, there is an amazing amount of aboriginal significance in this area that is worth exploring - check in first at the St Helens Visitor Information Centre, they'll have everything you need to get you in the right direction.
The world class Blue Derby Mountain Bike Trails begin in the Blue Tier and flow right through to the quaint little towns of Weldborough and Derby - they are an absolute must see and do if you are into any kind of riding. All kinds of grades of track for the beginner through to professional riders. Pyengana is a great day trip on it's own as you explore the fertile valleys, St Columba Falls and stop off at the Pub in the Paddock to feed the pig a beer and then Holy Cow Cafe where you can watch the cows being milked and try our very own 'Real Milk'. St Helens and Binalong Bay are full of all kinds of things to explore and the kids love Cerise Brook Orchard and Chip 'n' Putt - so leave some time for that (closed in winter so just check with them first). Heading south of Scamander we're blessed with endless surf breaks that are popular all year round. There are local surf schools and plenty of surf shops who can get you on the right waves. Falmouth and Four Mile Creek are great spots for fishing and surfing so check them out as you drive through. White Sands Estate is perched overlooking Ironhouse Point and they are open 7 days a week for beer sampling, coffee and meals. Their own Ironhouse Beer label is gaining accolades across the country for it's clean crisp notes and definitely a favourite locally. Tasmanian beer at Ironhouse Brewery is a must do!
Heading toward Bicheno you will come across East Coast Natureworld which is a full days fun for the family. They are working very hard with Tasmanian Devil conservation and you can meet a real live devil when you visit. Plenty of other animals, critters and information - the kids will love it. Bicheno is a small town on the way to Coles Bay, Freycinet and Wineglass Bay. A good stopping point for lunch or to catch the penguin tours of an evening. Head on about 15km and you are at the turnoff to Coles Bay which will take you through to Wineglass Bay. Everything at Coles Bay is at a premium, but it is definitely worth a visit. On the road in, stop at the Freycinet Marine Farm and sample the freshest mussels and oysters cooked to perfection. The Parks and Wildlife Centre at the entrance to the national park is a mecca of local information and can get you sorted with national parks passes etc to get your through into the Freycinet National Park. But the best way to see Wineglass Bay is onboard with Wineglass Bay Cruises. Duncan and Irene are just simply amazing and make sure you tell them that Heidi from Scamander sent you down! Their new vessel will have you seeing Wineglass Bay in total comfort - it is well worth it.
So these are just some of the many, many things to do when you come to stay with us at Carmen's Inn. Plus, when you are based right in the middle with your East Coast accommodation, you don't have to pack up and leave everyday - just settle in for a while and kick back and relax each night.
Now one little word of warning. Most places on the East Coast of Tasmania close up for meals by 8pm. So if you are arriving later of an evening, be prepared. We do have some very basic meal provisions available at Carmens Inn which we can leave in your room so you can cook up a simple meal when you arrive - can't have you starving!!
We really hope you have a great stay planned, and I promise, you will need more time than you have allocated, so stay with us an extra night!
See you soon
